We have experienced the best and the worst of "education" and through experience, we have learned many things that work and many things that fail miserably.
Too often lectures are boring and irrelevant to student's lives and most of the content is simply memorized, spewed out for an exam, and then quickly forgotten.
But beyond this, there's often only one right answer, which frequently cultivates in our students a fear of failure.
Being "academic" doesn't tell you much about yourself, It tells you you're good at school, which is fine if you plan to spend your life in school, but very few students do.
Academics do not indicate whether children will be successful adults, in marriage, raising children, managing money, responsible citizenship or giving back to the community.
Schools need to be a place where children learn AND discover what they love. Children should be able to ask the questions that matter to them and pursue the answers.
Children need to be encouraged to discover what they are passionate about and what truly sets their hearts and souls an fire.
Children need to know they can make a difference now. Above all, children should leave school knowing what what they want out of life.
Schools need to create an environment that engages learners, fosters creativity, and puts responsibility for learning where it belongs - with our students.
Students need to be able to problem-solve, innovate freely and fail repeatedly.
Students need to be able to communicate powerfully in conversation and using the mediums of print and technology.
